NATCHEZ — Funeral mass services for Clarence Neff Young, 83, of Natchez, who died Friday, May 25, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary Basilica with the Revs. David O’Connor and Stacy Douglas officiating.

Other service participants include Ann Elizabeth Kaiser, Nancy McFarland, David McGehee, Bruce Scarborough, Steven W. Smith, Phillip Zucarro, Pat Dale and Barbara Kaiser.

Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemtery under the direction of Laird’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. the church.

Mr. Young was born on April 17, 1929, in Albany, N.Y., the son of Ailene Neff Young and Frank Young.

He is a graduate of Millsaps College, Jackson School of Law and Louisiana State University School of Banking of the South. He was duly admitted and qualified as an attorney and counselor at law of the Mississippi Supreme Court in 1957, and was a member of the Mississippi State Bar Association for over 50 years.

Mr. Young was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Delta Kappa and was a Mason and a Shriner. He was most proud of his military service. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served as a sergeant major in the Army, Battalion 765, and served in the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade in Korea.

Mr. Young, a well-known local banker for more than 28 years, was actively involved in many civic and volunteer organizations including the American Legion, 40 & 8, Toastmasters Club, Natchez Shrine Club, Mississippi Bankers Association, National Association of Bank Auditors and Comptrollers, the local VFW Post and the Gideons. He served as chairman of the Mississippi River Parkway. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge No. 553 and served on many local boards and committees.

Mr. Young was awarded the Natchez Trace Post Riders award for his service to the Natchez Trace Parkway and was named a special deputy sheriff in Adams County.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Roxie Rue McClure Young, and his brother Charles Perry Young of California.

Survivors include his wife Sally Cummings Young; his five children, Daniel Neff Young of Texas, Roxie Young Robertson and husband, Jimmy Robertson, of Natchez, Ruth Young Anderson and husband, Paul Anderson, of Natchez, Carol Young Mowen and husband, Nick Mowen, and Martin James Young and wife, Cindy Young, all of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Raymond Basil Young and wife, Genevieve Young, of Arizona, Ellen Ayres of Natchez, Claire Robertson Rymer and husband, Jamie Rymer, of Ridgeland, Peter Mowen , Andrew Mowen and Chelsea Sanford, all of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren Abraham Young of Arizona and Vera Claire Rymer of Ridgeland. His extended family by marriage includes children Andre Farish, Jr., and wife, Lindy Farish, and Melissa Morrison, and grandchildren Avery Jane Farish, Wheeler Morrison, Langdon Morrison, Andrew Calvert Farish and Austin Cardneaux, all of Natchez.

Pallbearers include Chandler Whitney, John Mark Whitney, Barth Whitney, Brian N. Jackson, David Gammill and Brandon Echols.

Honorary pallbearers include Eddie Forbess, Prentiss Graves, Willie Smith, Charles Rymer, Melton King and J.J. Whitehead.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Leslie England, Dr. John O’Brien, nurse K. C. Welch and Mrs. Nellie Dottery for their care and support. Memorial donations may be made to the local VFW, the United Way or the George W. Armstrong Library.
