FERRIDAY — Services for Earnest Henderson Sr., 87, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Lee Andrew Martin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Henderson was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Ferriday, the son of Walter and Beatrice Wallace Henderson. He was a retired plumber.

Mr. Henderson took pride in his garden, producing fresh vegetables for his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sons, Don, Sandy, Leonard and Ray Charles Henderson; one brother, Walter Henderson; and one grandson, Curry Henderson.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee Griggs Henderson; five sons, Bobby Henderson, Edgar Henderson, Harold Henderson, all of Ferriday, and Clarence Henderson and wife, Denise, of New Orleans and Earnest Henderson Jr. of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three daughters, Gloria Whitley and Mildred Castille, both of Ferriday, and Willie Knoton and husband, Jessie, of New Orleans; one stepdaughter, Hattie Brown and husband, Beasley, of Ohio; seven brothers, Oliver Henderson and wife, Mattie, of Chicago, Cemuel Henderson and wife, Priscilla, Louis Henderson and wife, Earnestine, Leon Henderson and wife, Linda, Wilbert Henderson, all of Ferriday, Leroy Henderson and Jessie Henderson and wife, Rosalind, all of New Orleans; five sisters, Ethel Martin, Ernestine Harris, Virginia Washington and husband, Ike, Thelma Webb and husband, James, and Elizabeth Calhoun, all of Ferriday; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
