NATCHEZ — Services for Leon Williams, 55, who died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the National Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams was born Oct. 30, 1956, in Natchez, the son of James Williams Sr. and Sadie Hunter Williams and was the youngest of six children.
He was educated in the Adams County Public School System and a 1974 graduate of North Natchez High School. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force becoming an airman. After completing his term of service, Mr. Williams worked as a long distance operator for South Central Bell, a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and as a painter/carpenter in the field of construction. In 1976 he united in holy matrimony to Sharon Fleming. To this union three children were born.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by one son, Leonard James Williams; one brother, Arthur Michael Williams; only sister, Redia Jean Williams.
Survivors include four children, Tavachi Flowers of Natchez, Tonnie K. Williams and husband, Charles, of San Antonio, Texas, Leon Gregory Williams and wife, Dionne, of Grand Prairie, Texas and Sharon Janae Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Talisha McWright, Jaydin Flowers, Robert Campbell, Caprice Williams, Cairo Williams, Nicholas Horton, and Leila Williams; three brothers, Freddie Lee Williams and wife, Rosalind, of Deatsville, Ala., James A. Williams and wife, Darlene and Douglas V. Williams, all of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
