NATCHEZ — Some American Queen passengers got an unexpected extra night in Natchez this week.
Tim Rubacky, senior vice president of the American Steamboat Company, said the the river became too low for the steamboat to head up the river to Vicksburg. Rubacky said the boat stayed docked in Natchez Tuesday night, and passengers were given the option to take a bus tour to Vicksburg or stay in Natchez.
“Some of our passengers elected to take the tour to Vicksburg, but a good number of passengers decided to stay in Natchez,” Rubacky said. “It is such a beautiful city.”
The American Queen, Rubacky said, was scheduled to leave Natchez Wednesday night headed to Baton Rouge then New Orleans. He said the boat is scheduled to return to Natchez June 24.
