MCCALL CREEK — A pedestrian was struck and killed in a two-vehicle accident in Franklin County this afternoon.
Joseph A. Woodward Jr., 32, of Edwards, was working to put warning strips along U.S. 84. He had apparently exited his vehicle to inspect the progress, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Woodward was struck by a 2009 Lexus IS 250 driven by a 19-year-old from McCall Creek.
The Lexus was traveling west on the highway when the driver veered into the right lane where Woodward was standing near a parked 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Lane Line LLC of Flowood, the company for which he worked.
The Lexus also hit the driver’s side of the Chevrolet, a highway patrol spokesman said.
Woodward was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Lexus was transported by ambulance to the Franklin County Hospital with minor injuries. She was wearing her seat belt.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The accident occurred at 1:48 p.m. and was just west of McCall Creek.
