WEEKEND TICKET: Indoor events offer relief from possible storms

NATCHEZ — Rain is likely today, but the chance for thunderstorms will not exceed 40 percent for the rest of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

While staying dry, there are a few things to do in Natchez this weekend.

Historic Jefferson College will host EXPLORE! Block Challenge from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Participants ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 12 will be building things from description only and seeing how high of a tower they can build.

Parents and grandparents are welcome.

The cost to participate is $10.

Community Awareness Luncheon

The Community Awareness Luncheon, sponsored by NAACP, National Coalition of Black Women, Natchez Business and Civic League and Greater Macedonia Baptist Church will be at noon Saturday at the Voters League, which was formerly the Brickhouse.

Civic engagement officer Kamau Franklin from New York will be the guest speaker. Franklin will speak on voting rights.

Light refreshments will be served and the meeting is free to the public.

Hollywood comes to Natchez

The Natchez Literary & Cinema Celebration will present, during the next few months, a series of films inspired by America’s Civil War starting with “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” at 4 p.m., Saturday at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center. A discussion led by James Wiggins of Copiah-Lincoln Community College is scheduled after the movie.

The Natchez Visitor Reception Center is located on 640 S. Canal St.

Admission is free for this event. Refreshments will be served.

Ninth Annual Standing Ovation Awards Gala

Natchez Little Theatre will celebrate the best of the 64th season and the volunteers who put in time to create the shows 6 p.m. Saturday.

NLT actors and volunteers will grace the stage with live entertainment from the 64th season and a sneak peek of the 65th season.

Foods prepared by local chefs, restaurants and caterers, champagne, wine and punch, will be served.

Winners of Standing Ovation awards will be announced.

The event will also have a silent auction.

Tickets for this event are $15.

Pack the Bus: Operation Back to School

The Junior Auxiliary of Natchez will collect school supplies from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Walmart.

Contributions of school supplies or monetary donations are welcomed.
