NATCHEZ — Natchez police charged a Natchez man Thursday in connection with the Aug. 5 robbery and assault of a North Union Street man.

Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said Lakei T. Green, 28, 9 Perrault St., was charged with armed robbery as one of three suspects in the case.

According to the police report, the victim of the robbery and aggravated assault reported he was asleep on the couch at 1023 N. Union St. when three unknown males with their faces covered entered the residence through the front door, one reportedly wielding a gun and another carrying a knife.

The report states that the victim told police the men grabbed him and began to strike him in the head and face with a hard object, likely a gun, and demand money.

Ford said the victim told police he led the attackers to a bedroom and gave them $1,800 because he was afraid he would be further harmed.

After taking the money the attackers reportedly left the residence, fleeing out the front door.

The victim was treated at Natchez Regional Medical Center for the wounds received during the attack.

Ford said Green is only being charged with armed robbery and not aggravated assault at the moment.

Other suspects, Ford said, are being questioned but no other charges had been filed as of Thursday evening.

Green is being held without bond.
