Wilkinson County blows out Amite County 46-8

WOODVILLE — Devin Voorhies threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 36 yards and a score as the Wilkinson County Wildcats scored 38 unanswered points in their 46-8 win over the Amite County Trojans Friday night.
Voorhies had two touchdown passes of 35 yards to Allenzae Staggers and Latravion McKenzie to go with a 21-yard touchdown run. He completed six of 11 passes with one interception, and he carried the ball four times.
The score was tied at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter before Wilkinson County blew the game open with 24 second-quarter points for a 32-8 halftime lead. Nicholas Hull led the Wildcats’ rushing attack with 15 carries for 113 yards and one touchdown. Elton Jolla had just three rushes for 15 yards, but one of those carries was for a touchdown, and he was the team’s leading tackler with eight.
McKenzie finished with seven receptions for 70 yards. La’Darian Peterson picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.
Wilkinson County (2-0) is off next Friday night before hosting South Pike Sept. 7.
