Centreville runs past Oak Forest; WCCA gets win

CENTREVILLE — Randy Bell led Centreville Academy’s rushing attack with 145 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries as the Tigers got past the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets 33-13 in their MAIS District 6-AA opener Friday night.
On the opening drive for Centreville, Bell had three carries for 70 yards and his 9-yard touchdown run gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. Colton Terrell, who had 19 carries for 81 yards, scored on a 3-yard run early in the second quarter, but Brock Andrus missed the extra point to leave the score 13-0.
Oak Forest relied on the duo of Carter Captanvault and Matthew Gill to keep it in the ball game. The two connected on touchdown passes of 60 yards in the second quarter and 12 yards late in the third quarter. Bell’s second touchdown, an 11-yard run with 9:15 to go in the third quarter, allowed Centreville to stay ahead heading into the fourth quarter at 19-13. Bell’s third touchdown of the game, a 32-yard run with 10:42 to go in the fourth, gave the Tigers a 26-13 lead. Brandon Arnett put the game away with his 1-yard run midway through the final quarter.
Casey Haygood completed nine of 13 passes for 146 yards and one interception, and Colby Shaw had four catches for 90 yards. The Tigers had 19 first down and 387 yards of total offense, but they were also penalized 15 times for 146 yards.
Centreville (4-0) plays at Brookhaven Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
WCCA 17, Riverfield 10
WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy held on to defeat Riverfield Academy Friday night to not only avenge last year’s playoff loss, but to also take first place in MAIS District 3-A (South Central A). With the win, WCCA improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Next up for the Rams is a road game at Claiborne Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
