NATCHEZ — Services for Odell “Daddy” Carter Sr., 90, of Natchez, who died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. Joe W. Pickett officiating.
Burial will follow at Egypt Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingston under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Carter was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Adams County, the son of Willie and Georgia Carter. He retired from Johns Manville after 40 years of loyal service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tony Carter; and two sisters, Georgia Tolbert and Amelia Carter; and four brothers, Marcus Carter, Tim Carter, J.W. Carter and Thomas Carter.
Survivors include his loving wife, Annette D. Carter; three sons, Odell Carter Jr. of Natchez, Jerome Carter and wife, Janice, of Vicksburg and Terry Carter and wife, Karen, of Detroit; five daughters, Courtney Jones and husband, Roosevelt, of Hampton, Va., Ladonna Davis and husband, Kale, of Vidalia, Wanda Jennings and husband, Larry, of Atlanta, Tashekia Carter and Hattie Burkhart, both of Natchez; three stepchildren, Debra Woods of Natchez, Norma Moore and husband, Bruce, of Vicksburg and Willie Jackson of Houston; two sisters, Lillian Carter of Natchez and Gertrude Wright of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two special caregivers, Fred Carter and Odell Carter III; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
