NATCHEZ — Elevance Renewable Sciences company officials said the Friday night response of the Natchez Fire Department to the company’s facility in the Natchez-Adams County Port was precautionary.

Plant Manager Kevin Diesen said insulation on one of the facility’s tanks had begun smoldering, and the fire department was called in case it was needed.

The fire department used a heat sensor to monitor the tank following the incident, Diesen said, and the plant remains fully operational.
