NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors will host a public hearing to explain the rationale for selling Natchez Regional Medical Center this morning.

The hearing will be at 9 a.m. in the board room in the supervisors’ offices on State Street.

The supervisors have announced their intention to sell the county-owned hospital on the recommendation of the hospital’s board of trustees, who said the costs and logistics of implementing new health care law will make maintaining an independent hospital difficult.

The trustees have also said that the only way to attract the necessary doctors to the area is to make NRMC a part of a larger health care system.
