Ben Hillyer | The Natchez Democrat — When you are suspended in a cage below the Mississippi River Bridge there is nowhere to go to take a break. A worker from Gibson and Associates, the company that is performing maintenance on the bridge, lie down on the platform and looks up at the underside of the bridge, bottom right, and waits for his fellow construction workers to return with tools the needed to continue the maintenance Saturday afternoon. Mississippi Department of Transportation officials say one lane of the bridge will be closed during the maintenance which started in August and is expected to finish in November.
