JONESVILLE — Raymond Plummer had 156 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 16 carries as the Block Bears defeated the Montgomery Tigers 26-8 Thursday night to remain unbeaten in LHSAA District 3-1A.
After a scoreless first quarter on a soggy field at HG Taliaferro Memorial Stadium, Plummer got Block on the scoreboard with an 8-yard touchdown run and Austin Danzy added the two-point conversion run with 6:03 to go until halftime.
Plummer broke Montgomery’s back with touchdown runs of 17 and 80 in the third quarter for a 20-0 Bears lead. Trevor Vault scored on a 12-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Montgomery (6-3, 2-2) avoided being shut out on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Chris Sykes to Bijon Washington and James Davis ran in for two with 2:13 left in the ball game. That was the Tigers’ only bright spot of the game as the Bears’ defense forced six turnovers, including three interceptions by Dorian Bowman.
Block (4-5, 4-0) plays at LaSalle High School at 7 p.m. Thursday in what could be a showdown for the District 3-1A championship.
