VICKSBURG — A Natchez couple landed in Warren County Jail Wednesday for possession of methamphetamine after a sheriff’s deputy reportedly found them walking with two children on U.S. 61 South.
Eric Turnage, 32, and Melissa Turnage, 39, both of 26 Parsons Road, were arrested shortly after Warren County Deputy Jonathan Hern found them walking on U.S. 61 South near Walmart at approximately 6 a.m., Sheriff Martin Pace said.
The couple told Hern they had car trouble and were taken to a motel to get out of Wednesday morning’s 38-degree weather, Pace said. A short time later, Hern discovered the couple had not checked in to the motel and caught up with them near Old Highway 27 south of Clay Street. Pace said meth was found in a purse in the couple’s possession.
With them were two girls, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old, believed to be the couple’s grandchildren, walking barefoot in pajamas, Pace said.
The children were in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services Wednesday, Pace said.
