MORGANZA, La. — Raymond Plummer and Cameron Everett combined for 316 rushing yards and four touchdowns, but it was Austin Danzy that came through in the clutch for Block as the No. 11 seeded Bears upset the 6th-seeded Pointe Coupee Central Cougars 37-26 Friday night in the regional round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.
Pointe Coupee Central was on the verge of rallying all the way back from a 29-12 halftime deficit and had the deficit down to just three points until Block ended the comeback on Danzy’s 18-yard touchdown run with 2:43 remaining.
“It was a good win. We were real physical,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said. “We hammered it at them. We gave up a couple of long passes. But overall, we did a good job. We pretty much did what we wanted to do.”
Plummer finished with 160 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, and Everett had 21 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Danzy had 11 carries for 65 yards.
Block (7-5) plays host to No. 3 seed West St. John at 7 p.m. Friday in a quarterfinal round game.
