NATCHEZ — More than 4,000 residents in Natchez and Adams County are without power this morning as a result of the winter weather.

Entergy spokesman Tim Runnels said Adams County has the most outages in the area with the last check showing nearly 3,000 residents without power.

The majority of those outages, Runnels said, were caused by freezing tree limbs falling and taking down lines.

Runnels said crews are out surveying damage throughout the area and were also bringing in out-of-town crews to assist with getting power fully restored.

“We’re working to get as many people up and running as we can,” Runnels said. “A lot of the main areas like the hospital and other places still have power, so maybe it’s not as bad as it could be.”

Runnels urged residents to stay away from downed power lines.

Between 1,200 and 1,300 customers of Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association are without electricity in the Adams County area, Secretary to the General Manager Stephanie Knotts said.

“We should be able to get everything back on by tonight if the weather doesn’t get worse,” she said.
