NATCHEZ — Police are searching for clues after two local car dealerships were burglarized in less than two weeks.

Natchez Ford and Performance Dodge in Ferriday owner Brad Yarbrough said both his dealerships have been burglarized in the past 11 days.

Natchez Ford’s cleaning crew discovered shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday that the dealership had been burglarized.

Yarbrough said burglars pried a door on the side of the building open, possibly with a crowbar, and made their way from the service repair shop to the front office by prying a couple of more doors open.

The burglars, Yarbrough said, broke into a front office safe and stole a “substantial amount” of cash.

The burglars also went through unlocked vehicles, which belonged to customers who dropped their vehicles off to be serviced, but did not take anything, Yarbrough said.

Burglars were likely looking for tools in the cars to break into the building, Yarbrough said.

A similar process was used to break into Performance Dodge Feb. 19, Yarbrough said.

Burglars could not open the Ferriday dealership’s safe, Yarbrough said, but vandalized a few vehicles for sale on the lot.

Yarbrough said he will be increasing security at his dealerships in an effort to avoid future burglaries.

Natchez Police Lt. Craig Godbold said police believe multiple suspects were involved in the burglaries.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.

Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $5,000 for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect. Callers may remain anonymous.
