JONESVILLE — Services for Luther D. Skipper Jr., 71, of Sicily Island, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Riverland Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Worship Center with the Rev. Lester Johnson and the Rev. John Collard officiating.
Burial will follow in Monclova Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Skipper was born Sept. 18, 1942, the son of Luther D. Skipper Sr. and Ruth Howell Skipper.
He was a life-long resident of Tensas and Catahoula parishes.
He retired from Goldman Equipment Co. as service manager and was a self-employed farmer, known as a hard-working husband, father and dedicated Christian man.
Mr. Skipper was preceded in death by his sweethart of 51 years, Bobbie Metcalf Skipper; his parents; one brother, James Skipper; and three sisters, Sherrie Skipper Guthrie, Louise Skipper Welborn and Mary Bell Skipper White.
Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Skipper Dunning and husband, Frank, and Carrie Skipper King and husband, David, of Sicily Island; three grandsons, Frank Dunning III, Luther Daniel Dunning and David “Bubba” King Jr.; one granddaughter, Hannah Dunning; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Skipper, of Waterproof and Bobby Skipper, of Newellton; and one sister, Alene Skipper Hoss, of DeRidder.
Pallbearers will be Frank Dunning Jr., David King Sr., Frank Dunning III, Luther Daniel Dunning, Charles Rushing and Billy Sanders.
