Miss attorney general speaking locally

NATCHEZ — Attorney General Jim Hood will be the closing speaker in Natchez Friday at a workshop about managing Mississippi’s oil and gas.

Landowners, land managers, elected officials and community leaders interested in oil and gas development can learn about legal, financial and land management planning at the two-day event.

The Mississippi State University Extension Service Center for Government and Community Development and the Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development will host the workshop.

“Managing Oil and Gas Development in Mississippi” will take place Thursday and Friday at the Natchez Grand Hotel. Registration at the door is $60.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, with an evening reception and optional trip to a local Chamber of Commerce event. The workshop runs from 8:45 a.m. to noon Friday.

Topics include industry economics, transportation issues and problem solving, managing environmental and infrastructure challenges, new technologies, environmental regulations, best management practices in oil and gas leasing and planning for energy growth.

The program is funded by a grant from the Southern Risk Management Education Center.
