Vidalia — Four area residents were arrested Sunday night after they allegedly pulled a pellet gun on a restaurant employee who refused to give the customers specific currency as change for the 21 cookies they ordered.
Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said officers responded to McDonalds on Carter Street at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports a customer in the drive-thru had drawn a weapon on an employee.
The officers arrived on scene, surrounded a car in the drive-thru and proceeded to question the four people inside the car.
Through interviews with those inside the car and McDonald’s employees, Lewis said officers uncovered the suspects ordered 21 cookies in the drive-thru and proceeded to pay for their purchase with $300 in $20 bills.
“For change back, they wanted the employee to give them two of the new $100 bills,” Lewis said. “The lady told them she couldn’t do that, so they tried the same thing when they got to the next window, where another employee told them the same thing.
“That’s when they pulled the gun on her.”
Lewis said the weapon had no marks or characteristics of a pellet gun, and officers treated the case as if it were a real pistol until inspecting the weapon.
Several bags of marijuana and synthetic marijuana were also found inside the vehicle, Lewis said.
The suspects charged in the incident include:
• Keena Shamal Crumpton, 22, 1202 Elvira St., Jonesville, who was charged with principle to aggravated assault, introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
• Javan Nakarius Dunbar, 22, 102 Division St., Jonesville, who was charged with principle to aggravated assault and possession of marijuana (second offense).
• Jazerrick Jaron Banks, 22, 158 Trading Post Road, Wildsville, who was charged with principle to aggravated assault.
• Monté Syntrell Washington, 20, 404 10th St., Jonesville, who was charged with principle to aggravated assault and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
No bond had been set for any of the suspects as of Monday afternoon.
