Plenty of good news spread in Miss-Lou

From musical performers sharing educational lessons with students to green thumbed residents sprucing up an area of town, plenty of great things happened in our community last week.
Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from last week:
• Performers with the Natchez Festival of Music entertained Miss-Lou students at Braden Auditorium while performing the children’s opera, “The Bremen Town Musicians,” which is the operatic version of the Brothers Grimm Tale “The Town Musicians of Bremen.” By the end of the month, the performers expect to reach more than 7,000 kindergarten through sixth-grade students in the area. We thank the Festival of Music for teaching the area’s children valuable lessons through music.
• A few Under-the-Hill residents decided to plant poppies and other wildflowers in an area they say is an entrance to the city for riverboat visitors. The land is leased by the Isle of Capri Casino, which purchased the seeds to plant the flowers that bloomed last week. We thank the residents and the casino for working together to keep Natchez beautiful.
• Akia Johnson was named the STAR student at Natchez High School, an honor bestowed to the student who scores the highest ACT score at each school in Mississippi. Johnson scored a 26 on the college preparatory test and plans to study nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi in the fall. We congratulate Johnson on her success and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
Let’s keep the good news coming as we begin another week in the Miss-Lou.
