Miss-Lou residents came out in droves this weekend to show their support in the fight against cancer while celebrating survivors, mourning the victims and supporting those still fighting the disease.
Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s look back at some of the highlights from last week:
-The 18th annual Miss-Lou Relay for Life included survivors, fighters and supporters staying up late to help raise money for cancer research. With a strong support from participants coming out to the Vidalia Riverfront, organizers are hopeful the event will surpass the $3 million mark in funds raised since the event began in 1996. Those who gathered deserve recognition for giving their time and money to such a worthy cause.
-Iowa native and Natchez resident Dan Miller spends each Wednesday traveling to local hospitals to offer Communion to patients as a Eucharistic minister. Miller became heavily involved at St. Mary Basilica when he and his wife moved to Natchez nearly three years ago. They see the work as a chance to give back to the community. We thank Miller for giving his time to those in need.
-Alyssa Stewart was named the STAR student at Cathedral High School. The STAR student honor is awarded to the student who scores the highest ACT score at each school in the state. Stewart earned a 30 on the college preparatory test and plans to study biology at Louisiana State University in the fall. We congratulate Stewart on her success and wish her the best going forward.
The week ahead is expected to be one filled with sunny skies and warm temperatures, so let’s make more great news this week in the Miss-Lou.
