Cathedral falls to Smithville in state championship

PEARL — The Cathedral Green Wave baseball team fell to Smithville High School 6-2 in Game 2 of the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

11:55 a.m. — Cathedral falls 6-2 to Smithville in the state championship game.
11:42 a.m. — Garrity still pumping it. Going to seventh. Cathedral down to last three outs. 6-2.
11:41 a.m. — Flattmann comes through with RBI single. Bradley follows with RBI double. Inning ends on Shirley flyout. 6-2, bottom sixth.
11:27 a.m. — Jenkins starts off inning with single and Garrity walks to start the inning.
11: 15 a.m. — Three up, three down. Going to bottom of the fifth with 6-0 Smithville lead.
11:11 a.m. — Garrity got final out with a strike. 6-0 heading into the fifth. Shirley up to bat.
11:10 a.m. — Another RBI double and the game has broken open. Smithville leads 6-0.
11 a.m. — Huge blunder by Beesley trying to tag on a foul ball. Gets thrown out at third to end the inning. 2-0 going to fourth.
10: 55 a.m. — Garrity strikes out cleanup hitter to end the inning.
10: 47 a.m. — Error loads the bases and sac fly adds another run for Smithville. 2-0.
10: 46 a.m. — Play at the plate results in Garrity giving up his first run in 23 innings. 1-0 Smithville.
10: 40 a.m. — Smithville’s Drew Lann shuts Cathedral down in order. Score is 0-0 heading to the bottom of the third.
10:34 a.m. — Thomas Garrity shuts Smithville down after a lead off walk. Score is 0-0 entering the third. Garrity hasn’t allowed a hit yet.
10:27 a.m. — Line drive by Smithville leads to double play by the Green Wave. Headed to the top of the third. Cathedral’s Turner Janette up to bat first.
10:23 a.m. — Bottom of the second inning. Score still 0-0. Thomas Garrity on the mound.
10:19 a.m. — Bradley gets the first hit of the morning and heads to first. Cathedral’s Pate Shirley up to the plate. Brock Farmer on deck.
10:16 a.m. — The game heads to the top of the second inning with the same 0-0 score. Cathedral’s Craig Bradley is up to bat first for the Green Wave.
