NATCHEZ — Freddy Marks of Vidalia had a case of déja vu Thursday afternoon on the par-3 16th hole at the Duncan Park Golf Course.
He said he had a hole-in-one on that same hole back in 1999, but he said he didn’t turn it in because he didn’t make much of it. That was not to be the case the second time around.
Freddy Marks made this ace from 120 yards out with a 7-iron.
Witnesses to the hole-in-one were a pair of Freddy’s relatives — nephew Rusty Marks and brother Bobby Marks — as well as Danny Hankins, whom Freddy said is a good friend of his.
“It went into the hole,” Freddy said. “I knew it was a good shot. I knew it was going to be real close. I turned my back, and they told me it was in the hole. I hit from the senior tees because I’m 71 years old.”
As to each of their reactions to the hole-in-one, Freddy said, “They were more excited than I was. I was a little more shocked.”
