NATCHEZ — Natchez-Adams County Metro Narcotics agents arrested two people this week on charges they had $11,000 worth of illegal drugs in their residence.
Agents who had conducted an undercover investigation obtained a search warrant for 156 Morgantown Road, the residence of Leonard and Gwendolyn Nicole Harris, according to a news release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
When they executed the warrant Monday, agents reportedly found 4 ounces of powder and crack cocaine, with a street value of $10,000, according to the ACSO.
“This is a substantial amount of cocaine for this area,” Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said. “This bust should put a dent in drug distribution in Adams County.”
The agents likewise reportedly found 1 ounce of marijuana, with a street value of $1,000.
Other evidence seized in the search included an ecstasy pill, a .40-caliber handgun and approximately $1,000 in cash, according to the ACSO.
Gwendolyn Harris, 37, and Leonard Harris, 41, were both charged with possession of schedule II substance (crack cocaine) with intent, three counts possession of controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, possession of schedule II controlled substance (powder cocaine) with intent and possession of schedule I controlled substance (marijuana) with intent.
Gwendolyn Harris was released on a $24,000 bond Tuesday afternoon.
Leonard Harris was detained without bond Wednesday. According to an ACSO spokesperson, Leonard Harris has an extensive drug crime history, and this is his ninth arrest in Adams County since 2004.
