VIDALIA — The Concordia 7-8 All-Stars got a home run from Tyson Beard and a better defensive effort than they had two days earlier in an 11-2 win over South Franklin Tuesday afternoon at the Dixie Youth Machine Pitch Sub-district Tournament at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.
Tate Walsworth and Kaden Whatley each had a triple and Rylin Martin had a double for Concordia, which won its last two games after losing both of its games on Sunday afternoon.
“The defense came alive. We hit the ball well. They played their best game of the tournament,” Concordia coach Jarod Gregg said. “And they played like they’re capable of playing.”
Even though the tournament was a sub-district tournament, Gregg said that it was more of a round-robin tournament in that everybody plays everybody. Also, all five teams in this tournament — Concordia, Catahoula, South Franklin, Winnsboro A, and the Caldwell Nationals — will be in the district tournament that takes place later this week.
“We should be going into the district tournament in Winnsboro with a good bit of momentum,” Gregg said.
Beard belted two home runs in Concordia’s 6-2 win over Catahoula on Monday afternoon that got them on the winning track.
But the tournament did not start well for the host team. After Saturday’s games were postponed until Sunday afternoon due to unplayable field conditions, Concordia first lost to Winnsboro A 13-2 and then fell to the Caldwell Nationals 13-4. No other information on these two games was available.
