HARRISONBURG — The former chief financial officer for the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft and malfeasance in office.
George Tosspon, 61, of Jonesville, was arrested following an investigation that started in May when Catahoula Parish Sheriff James Kelly told investigators it was possible Tosspon had given himself unauthorized pay increases before he retired, according to a news release from the Louisiana State Police.
An audit completed by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office shows Tosspon received $22,534 in extra pay from August 2009 to November 2013.
The extra money came in the form of two unauthorized pay increases and a payroll check for overtime Tosspon did not work, according to the LSP.
Tosspon surrendered to CPSO investigators Wednesday and was detained on a $25,000 bond. He faces as many as 15 years in prison if convicted.
