NATCHEZ — A two-vehicle wreck near Broadmoor Drive Saturday left one Natchez man dead.

The fatal wreck occurred on Mississippi 555 at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday near the highway’s intersection with Broadmoor Drive, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Fortenberry. Mississippi 555 is also called Martin Luther King Road in Adams County.

James E. Banks, 45, of Natchez, was traveling north on Mississippi 555 in a 2000 Buick Regal alongside Tommy E. Brady, 51, who was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van. Traveling with Brady was passenger Gloria Ross, 53, both of Natchez.

“At some point, the two vehicles came into contact, and Banks’ vehicle left the road and overturned,” Fortenberry said. “Any information on who was at fault is not yet available, as the accident is still under investigation.”

Witnesses on the scene said they saw Banks’ car sideswipe Brady’s vehicle before the Buick left the roadway.

Natchez Fire Department crews responded to the accident and used the Jaws of Life to remove Banks from the vehicle, who was not wearing his seat belt and wound up in the passenger side.

Banks was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Brady was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center with no injuries, and Ross was transported to Natchez Community Hospital with minor injuries. Fortenberry said Brady and Ross were both wearing their seat belts.

Fortenberry said toxicology reports and further information about the wreck were still pending as of Sunday afternoon.
