Update: 8:30 p.m. — Catahoula Parish Sheriff James Kelly said all roads have been reopened, but law enforcement officials are continuing to search for suspected explosives that might still be in the area.
Kelly said agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as Louisiana State Police troopers are searching buildings in Harrisonburg they believe might contain explosives.
Kelly said he couldn’t disclose why police were searching through those specific buildings, but did say none of the buildings are in highly populated areas.
NATCHEZ — A potential bomb at what has been described as a small retail store west of Jonesville has resulted in the rerouting of traffic on U.S. 84.
Catahoula Parish Sheriff James Kelly said his deputies arrested a man — Bill Womack of Jonesville — at approximately 8 a.m. Monday.
Kelly said Monday afternoon he did not know the initial charges for which Womack was arrested, but after his arrest Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators got information the suspect may have planted a bomb.
A suspected explosive device was found in a vehicle parked outside the retail business near Jonesville.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on the scene to dispose of the suspected bomb.
While the agents work to address the suspected explosive, traffic on U.S. 84 has been rerouted to Louisiana 8, Kelly said.
The sheriff said he believes U.S. 84 will be open in the early evening.
