WOODVILLE — Tali Beard went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and winning pitcher Kailey Hutchins helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 as the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints needed just three innings to defeat the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams 20-3 in an MAIS District 7-A game Thursday afternoon.

The first inning was not any indication that this game would end up the way it did. Trinity scored three runs off losing pitcher Mary Kathryn Doucet before WCCA responded with two runs of its own off Hutchins.

“We haven’t won many games (this season), but the girls are playing hard,” WCCA head coach Jessie Toney said.

The Lady Saints took control by scoring 11 runs in the top of the second inning. That allowed Hutchins to settle down on the mound and she kept the Lady Rams off the scoreboard in the final two innings. Trinity added six more runs in the top of the third inning.

“Trinity just knocked the cover off the ball (today), from top to bottom,” Toney said.

Hutchins allowed two hits, struck out one and walked two batters in her three innings of work. Rhiannon Nettles had both of those hits, including a double. Doucet gave up 13 hits, walked eight batters and struck out one in three innings.

Trinity (9-11, 3-2) plays at top-ranked and district opponent Franklin Academy next Monday at 6 p.m. WCCA (N/A, 0-7) plays at district opponent Tensas Academy next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
