CENTREVILLE — Chase Hughes led Centreville Academy’s rushing game with 115 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries as the Class AA top-ranked Tigers scored 28 points in the second quarter on their way to a 55-15 win over the Parklane Academy Pioneers Friday night.

As a team, Centreville racked up 361 rushing yards, and seven of the team’s eight touchdowns were on the ground. The Tigers finished with 456 total yards of offense.

Which meant quarterback Casey Haygood didn’t have to throw the ball very much. He completed four of seven passes for 95 yards with one interception.

John Marcus McDowell got the scoring spree started for the Tigers with a 16-yard run with 4:59 to go in the first quarter and Brock Andrus’ extra point made it 7-0. Then with 51 seconds to go in the opening quarter, Hughes scored on a 19-yard run, and the point after by Andrus gave them a 14-0 lead.

Hughes then scored on a 6-yard run with 11:29 left in the second quarter and Andrus’ PAT gave Centreville a 21-0 lead. Parklane finally got on the scoreboard when Peyton Yawn scored on a 4-yard pass from Logan Carr and the successful 2-point conversion pass made it a 21-8 game with 8:35 to go in the quarter.

Then the Tigers scored the final 21 points of the first half to put the game out of reach. First, Hughes scored on an 11-yard run with 6:49 remaining. Then Ian Ball scored on a 42-yard run with 3:18 left until halftime. Finally, Tyler Caston picked off a pass by Carr and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown with 2:25 to go. Andrus made all three extra points to help give Centreville a commanding 42-8 lead at the break.

But the Tigers were not done putting points on the board — even with the second team playing the entire second half.

Austin Addington scored on a 19-yard run with 10:33 left in the third quarter to put the Tigers ahead 49-8. Britt Netterville scored on a 13-yard run with 10:54 remaining in the ball game for a 55-8 lead.

Centreville Academy (4-0) hosts Ben’s Ford Christian School for both homecoming and its MAIS District 6-AA opener at 7 p.m. Friday.
