JONESVILLE — Services for Mack Walker, 85, of Jonesville, who died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, in Jonesville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Jonesville with the Rev. Bill Robertson and the Rev. Craig James officiating.
Burial will follow at Evagiline Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until service time Saturday, both at the church.
Mr. Walker was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Gilbert, La., the son of Charlie E. Walker and Emmett Edwards Walker.
Rev. Mack was a pastor and evangelist for 57 years, conducting hundreds of revivals, baptisms, weddings, funerals and ordinations. He was a mentor and pastor to many. Some say he was a pastor’s pastor.
While working as the resident mortician in the late ’50s and early ’60s, at Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville, he answered the call to enter the ministry and accepted his first church at Acme, followed by Dunbarton, Turkey Creek, Sycamore (24 years), Evangeline (interim), Pritchard, Mount Nebo and finally Larto Baptist Church for the past 22 years, where he continued preaching until recently. He also served as evangelism director for Quachita Baptist Church Association since 2001.
Rev. Mack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952, in Germany, where he managed to find a baseball team that provided him and others with a number of hours of entertaining competition. Many will remember his zeal and athletic abilities while playing semi-pro baseball in the 1940s. His love for sports and hunting, especially ducks, was exceeded only by his love and passion for preaching God’s word, leading people to Christ and talking about his loving family, especially his grandchildren.
Rev. Mack was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Shelia Maxine Walker; five brothers, Larry, Willie, Charlie F., Genie and Dudley Walker; and one sister, Bonnie Collins.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Ezetta Bordelon Walker; three daughters, Barbara Hammett and husband, Butch, Sherrie Huffman and husband, Karry, and Cindi Randall and husband, Greg, all of Vidalia; one brother, E.W. Walker and wife, Carma, of Jonesville; one sister, Venie Emfinger of Ferriday; six grandchildren, Rhiannon Money and husband, John, Rani Hammett, Kyle Randall and wife, Kristin, Shonda Brewer and husband, Carl, Kassi Brixey and husband, John, and Jordie Mac Huffman; and six great-grandchildren, Aubree Money, Aaden Money, Aidan Huffman, Baylee Brewer, Layton Daye and Grace Montpelier.
