Week filled with good news in area

Four-legged friends took over parts of Natchez this weekend and helped bring to a close a week full of great news in our community.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look back at the great things from last week:

-The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society celebrated its 22nd annual Bark in the Park fundraiser this week. The event drew dozens of participants to the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians where a variety of contests were hosted for all different kinds of pooches. We’re glad to see the humane society continuing this event and helping save so many animals in our area.

-Joyce Washington Ivery used her experience with breast cancer to help others in the fight by creating the Edna B. and Joyce Fay Washington Breast Cancer Foundation. The foundation has started programs such as “Journey to Save a Life,” which provides free mammograms for Miss-Lou residents. We thank those in our community who are able to use difficult moments in their lives as teaching tools to help others.

-Derrick Burt found himself in Natchez after a long and winding road that started on a basketball court at Jackson State University and brought him to First Baptist Church in Natchez. Burt switched a life on the court for a musical career within the church and moved to Natchez in January from a large congregation in Jackson. Burt has an enthusiasm for the choir that we’re glad to see and hope he continues living here and helping the church congregation to praise God in song. Those are just a few of the great things from our community last week, and we hope to hear of plenty of more this week.
