NATCHEZ — After taking a 12-1 beating in their last game against Park Place (12-1), Jimmy Allgood and the Lady Rebels of Adams County Christian School knew it was going to take their best effort to hang around in their second meeting.
ACCS put their best foot forward, but ended up falling short 5-1.
“I’m very impressed with the ladies,” Allgood said. “For the whole first half, the ladies came out and gave it 190 percent. For them to beat us 12-1 last time and for us to get beat 5-1 this game, that is a 5 million percent improvement in my opinion. Our ladies probably played the team that will be the state champion of our overall conference today.”
The Lady Rebels came out of the gate swinging and managed to get on the scoreboard first with a goal from Julianna Wallace, who found the back of the net early in the first half.
The game was physical from the first whistle and the Lady Rebels held Park Place to just two goals in the first half from Sybil Roberson and Kaylan Green.
“The defense stepped up today from the clears to the long attacks and back balls,” Allgood said. “I was very impressed with how they played, and they showed a whole lot of character.”
ACCS trailed just 2-1 entering the second half, but Park Place was able to net three more goals and eventually pull away. Roberson scored her second goal of the game early in the second half, and her teammates Reagan Smith and Alexis Knott each were able to slide one past the ACCS keeper to increase the lead.
“We played extremely hard against a really good opponent,” said Park Place coach Rod Morris. “Hats off to ACCS, they played well. We just played hard and got some goals.”
Even though his team came up short, Allgood took plenty of positives from the “The only way you can defeat a giant in this league is one chop at a time,” he said. “We made a major accomplishment in my opinion by taking a big swing early. We’re going to get there and I couldn’t be happier. It took a team effort today, and they really showed up.”
The Rebels rebounded after the loss quickly, defeating Brookhaven Academy 7-1 in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Jordan Parker recorded another hat trick on the season with three goals. Wallace added two goals after scoring one in the first game and Karigan Eidt scored two goals for the Rebels in the win.
Next up for ACCS is a matchup with Central Hinds this afternoon.
