NATCHEZ — Services for Emma Lee Fleming Calvit, 86, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, in Natchez, will be at noon Saturday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.
Burial will be Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 5:45 p.m., with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.
Mrs. Calvit was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Natchez, the daughter of Easter Swafford and Phillip Fleming.
She was retired.
Mrs. Calvit was a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church and served as a deaconess.
Mrs. Calvit enjoyed cooking, taking walks, watching television, gardening and going to church, which she loved. Her greatest passion was her family and taking care of children.
Mrs. Calvit was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alton “Teeney” Calvit Sr.; three brothers, John Fleming, Robert Fleming and Willie James Fleming; and daughter-in-law, Johnella Jackson Calvit.
Survivors include nine sons, George Fleming and wife, Clarissa, of Cleveland, Ohio, Wilbert Fleming and wife, Ardena, Julian Calvit and wife, Lori, Lee Edward Calvit and wife, Joannie, all of Providence, R.I., Alton Calvit and wife, Eyvonne, Michael Calvit and wife, Mary, Larry Calvit, Randolph Calvit, all of Houston, and Walter Calvit of Natchez; two daughters, Willie Dell Hembee and husband, Lamar, and Debra Calvit, all of Plainsfield, N.J.; two sisters, Catherine Hunter of Natchez and Elnora Turner of Leesville, La.; extended family, Aretha Matthews Calvit, Ervin Williams, both of Houston, Samuel C. West of McComb and James T. West of Natchez; and other relatives and friends.
