Richwood High School scored two touchdowns in the final 1:10 of the fourth quarter as the Rams rallied to defeat the Ferriday High School Trojans 31-26 Friday night.

Ferriday head coach Cleothis Cummings said his team getting off to a slow start and turnovers from the beginning were the determining factors in the outcome of this game.

“We started out slow. It was more of a feeling-out process in the first quarter. They scored on miscues,” Cummings said. “They started the game with an onside kick and it didn’t go 10 yards, but one of our guys touched it and they recovered it. We played undisciplined.”

Richwood led Ferriday 13-0 before the Trojans scored a touchdown with 2:46 to go until halftime. The Trojans scored on a Dontrell Domino run.

“Dontrell Domino had a good game,” Cummings said. “The offensive line played well once they started to make the adjustments.”

After a scoreless third quarter, Ferriday scored 14 straight points to take a 20-13 lead with 10:52 to go in the fourth quarter.

Ferriday would seize momentum to Richwood in the fourth quarter, though.

After the Rams made it a 20-19 game with 6:49 remaining, it looked like the Trojans were on their way to picking up their third win of the season after responding with a touchdown with just 3:29 left.

However, Ferriday allowed Richwood to get an onside kick, which aided the Rams with a short field to mount potential scoring drives.

Though the Trojans defense stood strong for the majority of the game, they could not keep the Rams out of the end zone when it mattered the most.

The Trojans ended up falling to 2-2 with the loss. Richwood finally got its first win of the season after a disappointing 0-3 start.

“Defensively, we’ve got to find guys who want to step up,” Cummings said. “We’ve got to put this behind us and regroup and get ready for next week.”

Ferriday will travel to Baldwin, La., to take on West St. Mary High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
