NATCHEZ — Natchez police are investigating the shooting of a vacant Alcorn State University band bus by someone with a BB gun.
Natchez Police Department Lt. Craig Godbold said the bus was parked at McDonald’s on U.S. 61 North at approximately 9 p.m. when someone allegedly drove by and shot at the bus with a BB gun. The band was returning from Houston after winning the SWAC Championship.
“When everyone got back on the bus, they saw the windows were cracked and that’s really all we have at this point,” Godbold said. “No one saw or heard anything.”
Godbold said investigators have checked with surrounding businesses in hopes of finding security footage from the incident, but haven’t been able to find a camera pointed in the direction of the bus.
The bus windows, Godbold said, were cracked, but not shattered from the shooting. No injuries were reported.
Godbold said he believes the incident is an isolated one with no recent reports or investigation of similar BB-gun shootings.
Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call NPD at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
