BYRAM — Services for Lawrence “Sarge” Jayroe, 86, of Byram, who died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at Manhattan Rehab Center in Jackson after a brief illness, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chancellor Funeral Home Chapel in Byram.12:11LawrenceJayroe obitpic

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens of Laurel under the direction of Chancellor Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time, both at the funeral home.

Mr. Jayroe was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Neshoba County, the oldest son of T.D. Jayroe and Lucille Butts.

He was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 23 years of service. He returned to Jackson and then to Byram.

Mr. Jayroe retired after 18 years with the former T.E. Jayroe Contractors of Byram. He was an active member of the Central Baptist Church of Byram, a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge where he served as Master of Museum Watt Carter Lodge.

He was also an active member of Leavell Woods Lodge and Wahabi Shrine Center and past Master of James A. Meyers Lodge No. 619.

Survivors include three children, Gary Derrell Jayroe and wife, Gayle, Larry Jayroe and wife, Brenda, and Cindi Mathis and husband, Skip; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Gerald Jayroe and wife, Margie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church in Byram.
