VIDALIA — Services for John Wesley Dayton Jr., 89, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, in Vicksburg, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Vidalia with the Rev. Bill McCullum and Dr. Ralph Webber officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Dayton was born March 16, 1925, in Jonesville, the son of John Wesley Dayton Sr. and Nellie Carraway Dayton.

Mr. Dayton earned his degree in business at Southeastern Louisiana University and went on to be employed by International Paper Company, where he worked for 34 years before retiring. He then opened Dayton Gavin Real Estate in Vidalia and retired in 2014, as a real estate agent for Century 21 in Natchez.

He will always be remembered for being a true gentlemen, always kind and compassionate and full of love for his entire family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, John Wesley “Wes” Dayton; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Dayton.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Sue Williams Dayton; one son, Jeff Dayton and wife, Hedy, of Philadelphia; four granddaughters, Amanda Dayton of Brookhaven and her mother, Debbie Thomas, Caitlan Dayton and Camryn Dayton of Vidalia and their mother, Julie Wagoner, and Elizabeth Gonzalez of Philadelphia; one brother, Barry “Rip” Dayton of Vidalia; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Lipscomb, Mark Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Jeff Bullen, Gary Sarrett and Russell Caldwell.
