NATCHEZ — Former Supervisor S.E. “Spanky” Felter is now in the running for the seat he lost to current Supervisor Calvin Butler in 2011.
The two are the only contenders for the District 5 supervisor’s seat after three weeks of qualifying for the county’s 2015 election cycle.
Qualifying will end Feb. 27.
Felter said he decided to run for the office again after many people asked him to enter the race.
“It made me feel good to hear them say, ‘We want you back,’” he said after qualifying. “I feel really good about it. I have never had so many people come up to me and ask, ‘When are you going to do it?’”
Butler has previously qualified for re-election.
Other candidates who qualified this week include sitting District 2 Supervisor David Carter — who remains unopposed — and sitting Northern District Justice Court Judge Patricia Dunmore.
