vidalia — For Preston Sullivan and his son Bram, duck hunting is about more than just shooting. It is about being able to spend time together.

“We’ve started last year when he was seven,” Preston said. “I was a duck hunter when I was younger, then I got out of it, but then a bunch of buddies were hunting, and I joined them.”

Sullivan also brought along a sidekick, Bram, who had a successful first season last year.

“It was awesome,” Preston said. “I don’t know how many seven year olds that have killed 57 ducks in a season. It is always nice to be able to have the kids outdoors and have them appreciate it all.”

Preston said there was something about duck hunting that just continually brought him back — the rush.

“It is just the anticipation and the rush of it,” he said. “Some days, you go out there and kill your limit, but then some days you may not get any, but it is still fun. There isn’t really a time I say I wish I hadn’t gone. Even the scenery and relaxation put you at another level.”

But what really put the experience over the top was being able to do it all with his son.

“I would say my favorite memory is my son killing his first duck,” Preston said. “And then going and talking to people about killing their first ducks and watching the new guys come in and fall in love with the sport. You’ve got your best buddies and everybody gets their limit, you can’t beat it.”

Preston said he hopes to be able to continue to share the experience with Bram for years to come.

“We’ll do this every year,” he said. “We go every morning and every evening.”
