JACKSON — After grabbing a win Monday night at home, the Cathedral Lady Wave hit the road to take on Mississippi School for the Deaf Tuesday and captured another win, 65-42.

The win was also a district game.

Cathedral fell behind after the first quarter of play 11-8, but shrugged off a slow start in the second half.

“We came out flat in the first half,” Cathedral head coach Randy Smith said. “Then we really played defense and won the second half with aggressiveness.”

Cathedral held MSD to just three points in the fourth quarter, while posting 23 of their own to seal the win.

Elizabeth Smith paced the offense with 18 points, while teammates McKenzie Milligan and Mackenzie Watts added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Kylisha Cathey led MSD with 27 points.

With the win, Cathedral improves to 9-5 on the year.

ACCS 63, Prentiss Christian 16

NATCHEZ — Jordan Petty recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Anna McDaniel and Lexi Emmanuel added 10 points each to propel Adams County Christian School to a 63-16 win against Prentiss Christian Tuesday night.

“When we executed and ran our offense, we were getting just about anything that we wanted,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “We cut down on our turnovers tremendously tonight, which we have to do.”

ACCS jumped out to a huge lead early on, outscoring Prentiss Christian 44-12 in the first half, and with the district tournament just two weeks away, it was the kind of performance Hall wanted to see.

“Now is the time you need to be sharpening up and clicking on all cylinders,” she said. “We have to keep working and get better on both offense and defense.”

It was also senior night for the Lady Rebels, and Hall said she was pleased her team was able to pull out a victory for them.

“It is tremendous,” she said. “I talked all year about the unity of this team and they love our seniors. They wanted to be able to finish strong for them.”

With the win, ACCS improves to 22-5 overall and also sits at 8-0 in district play.

Sterlington 57, Ferriday 53

STERLINGTON — The Ferriday Lady Trojans were unable to hang on to an early lead Tuesday at Sterlington, and fell 57-53.

Jada Griggs paced the offense with 31 points, but her efforts weren’t enough as Sterlington was able to capitalize on a 16-8 third quarter to pull ahead.

“We just haven’t been coming out playing enough to win in the second half in our last two games,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. “I don’t think it is due to fatigue, but maybe just the pressure of trying to win and maintain.”

With Griggs scoring more than half of the team’s points, Abron said she is hoping the team will begin to step up in scoring alongside her.

“We need some others to do some scoring,” she said. “(Sterlington) tried to have someone follow Jada tonight, so everybody else had to get involved, but we did a lot of watching.”

Kesia Mason was the only other Lady Trojan with double-digit points with 14.

With the loss, Ferriday now sits at 17-5 overall and is 3-3 in district play.

Buckeye 46, Vidalia 34

BUCKEYE — Despite a 19 point outing from Tierra Bell, the Vidalia Lady Vikings fell on the road in a district clash against Buckeye, 46-34.

Vidalia hung with the Panthers most of the way, but the deciding factor was being outscored by six in the second quarter of play.

Kealee Anderson and Sydney Servin led Buckeye with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

With the loss, Vidalia falls to 4-12 on the year and will host Caldwell Parish at home Friday.

Franklin County 47, Jefferson County 46

FAYETTE — Franklin County and Jefferson County’s game went down to the wire, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull away with a 47-46 win.

“We just didn’t finish the ball game,” Jefferson County head coach Flora McKnight said. “We didn’t adjust to the officials at the end of the game.”

Rachel Shelvy led Jefferson County with 16 points and Diamond Smith and Antrell Gales added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Tradata Norman led Franklin County with 12 points.

Franklin County improved to 14-4 with the win and sits at 5-0 in district play, while Jefferson County is now 11-9 and 4-1 in district.

Grace Christian 40, Monterey 32

MONTEREY — Grace Christian was able to sink a few clutch shots near the end of a clash with Monterey, and the Lady Warriors took down the Lady Wolves, 40-32.

“It was a hard fought game,” Monterey head coach Cary Shively said. “Both teams played hard. It was close right until the end.”

Tiffany Weeks led Monterey with six points in the game, while Grace Christian’s Kirsten Willis paced their offense with 17 points.

Monterey fell to 12-9 overall with the loss, but Shively believes his team will be able to use this as a learning experience for when the two meet again in their next district battle.

“We will be able to look at some film and try to improve on what we did wrong,” he said. “We will adjust hopefully when we play them later on.”

St. Marys 60, Block 49

JONESVILLE — Despite getting 16 points from LaKisica Bowman and 15 points from Bontresia Barber, the Block Lady Bears fell short against St. Marys 60-49 Tuesday.

St. Marys jumped out to an early lead, putting up 22 and 19 points in the first and second quarters, respectively, and Block head coach Veronica Savage believes that is what did Block in ultimately.

“St. Marys moved the ball well and they came out the gate running,” she said. “We did pretty good the rest of the quarters, but the first one really hurt us bad. I don’t think the kids did a bad job, but maybe it shocked us a bit.”

With the loss, Block fell to 8-12 overall and sits at 2-4 in district play.
