NATCHEZ — Betsy Blair doesn’t know exactly where life may take her after Trinity Episcopal Day School, but she knows where her heart will be.

Blair wants a life in missions.

The Trinity senior felt called to mission work after participating in the International Youth Convention Student Leadership Team in 2012.

The International Youth Convention is a Christian group that hosts meetings around the United States every other year for students and adults to learn more about and grow in Christ.

Conventions typically host an average of 30,000 people each year, Blair said.

The leadership team is made up of eight to 10 high school and college students who have been nominated and accepted through application and interview rounds. The group is responsible for organizing the convention schedule, leading worship, setting up meetings and ensuring all events go according to plan.

“We were on the run for basically 24 hours a day (organizing the events for the convention),” Blair said.

Blair was nominated for the IYC student leadership team in 2011 before moving to the Miss-Lou.

After being nominated for the student leadership team, Blair completed an application that included multiple questions and two essays. She then waited two months to find out that she had been invited to have a face-to-face interview with the IYC.

Blair, one of 200 students completing face-to-face interviews, was invited to join the 2012 IYC student leadership team.

Other responsibilities given to the IYC student leadership team included attending Impact Weekends in which the group completed different kinds of mission work. Blair traveled to Nashville, Denver, Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Oklahoma City.

After graduation, Blair plans to continue mission work during the summer by attending Church on the Street in Atlanta. This organization aids churches and missionaries in learning how to serve the most vulnerable people in their communities.

Blair has worked with the organization before.

Although she has not yet decided where to go to school, Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City, Okla., is one of her top choices.

During college, Blair hopes to spend a summer completing an internship with 3 World Ministries Group in Cairo, Egypt. Through the internship, Blair would be exposed to missionary groups whose main focus is on children.

One day, Blair she said would like to live in Europe and have her own children’s organization or foster home.

Blair is the daughter of Andy and Becky Blair. She attends Crosspoint Church in Natchez, where her father is pastor.
