JACKSON — The quest for an undefeated run in district play continued for the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs Friday as the cruised past Wingfield on the road, 71-46.

“It’s good going into district as the number one seed,” Natchez head coach Alphaka Moore said. “We want to continue being successful down the road.”

Despite what Moore called a rough start to the game, Natchez was able to build a 23-4 lead after the first quarter, and wouldn’t turn back from there.

Moore said she gave her starters a good bit of time on the floor, but also mixed in some role players.

“It was a consistent rotation of players,” Moore said. “I’m just trying to get everybody some game experience.”

Kirdis Clark led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points and Taylor Argue added 10 for Natchez.

Brianna Thompson led the way for Wingfield with 12 points.

Next up for Natchez High is a clash with Oak Grove at home for senior night.

Bogue Chitto 49, Cathedral 43

NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Lady Wave knew they were going to be tested with district foe Bogue Chitto coming to town Friday night, and the Lady Wave held their own, falling just short 49-43.

“Tremendous game,” Cathedral head coach Randy Smith said. “We played a highly-ranked team in the state and in our district.”

Smith said the difference in the game was free throw shooting.

“We were 12-of-26 from the free throw line,” he said. “We work on our free throws every practice.”

Cathedral led by one after the first quarter of play, but fell behind 24-18 heading into halftime.

However, the Lady Wave responded in the third, outscoring Bogue Chitto 17-12 and taking a lead into the final quarter of play.

“Credit to our team for trying to beat one of the top four teams in the state,” Smith said. “Being in the game in the last two minutes was good. We had our chances, but we missed a couple of threes.”

Smith said if he and his team can get a win in their next game, they will secure third place in their district.

ACCS 52, Prentiss Christian 15

PRENTISS — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels rolled into the championship game of the MAIS District 5-AA tournament after easily disposing of host team Prentiss Christian Friday night, 52-15.

“The girls came out with a lot of fire,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “They were ready.”

Bailey Boyd led ACCS with 14 points and Skylar Adams added eight of her own. Ten different Lady Rebels scored in the win.

“Everybody got to play tonight which is great,” Hall said. “Everybody contributed.”

ACCS will turn its attention to Brookhaven Academy who they will meet in the championship at 6:30 tonight.

“We’ve played each other a lot over the years,” Hall said. “We know each other very well. They always get up for us and we get up for them. We have to execute and play to our strengths.”

Oak Grove 67, Ferriday 32

ferriday— The Ferriday Lady Trojans got their first significant scoring game from a player since the dismissal of leading scorers Jada Griggs and Kesia Mason, but Lakeshanna Harris’ 17 points weren’t enough to propel Ferriday to victory against Oak Grove.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead and continued to put the pressure on Ferriday en route to a 67-32 win.

“The scoring doesn’t indicate how hard everyone played,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. “Everyone has been giving 100 percent effort. The effort was there, but we just couldn’t know down shots. Harris did have a good game tonight, but I just wish everyone else could’ve contributed.”

Oak Grove was cruising early, taking a 17-4 advantage into the second quarter, but Ferriday didn’t back down and managed to outscore the Lady Tigers 16-12 in the second.

“We just kept stressing not to give up and to keep pushing forward,” Abron said.

But Oak Grove would double-up Ferriday in the third quarter, 20-10, and then outscore the Lady Trojans 18-2 in the fourth quarter, to seal the win.

It wasn’t all bad news for Ferriday though, as it picked up an unexpected win after learning Winnfield had played with an ineligible player in their first meeting and was being forced to forfeit.

Ferriday currently sits at 18-9 overall and will conclude district play Tuesday against Jonesboro-Hodge.

Jena 64, Vidalia 46

JENA — Twenty-two fourth quarter points propelled the Jena Lady Giants past the Vidalia Lady Vikings Friday night.

Despite hanging with Jena through three quarters, Vidalia was outscored by 12 in the fourth quarter and fell 64-46.

Tierra Bell led the Lady Vikings with 15 points and teammate Bre’Honor Harris chipped in with 13 points.

Harley Linsbey led Jena with 16 points and Karli Fowler added 14 of her own.

With the loss, Vidalia fell to 4-15 on the year.

Jefferson County 65, Hazlehurst 50

FAYETTE — Antrell Gales scored 26 points and Diamond Smith added 18 as the Jefferson County Lady Tigers rolled past the Hazlehurst Lady Indians, 65-50.

Jefferson County outscored Hazlehurst in every quarter and pulled away at the end of the game, outscoring Hazlehurst 20-14 in the fourth.

Hazlehurst’s Danisha Davis challenged the Lady Tigers with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough.
