Stan’s outlook: Sunny skies ahead for week of Mardi Gras festivities

Well looks like another boring weather week which beats the heck out of what happened two years ago this Tuesday. I remember this day vividly because I was at the EOC when a report of a possible tornado was tracking toward Hattiesburg. I remember adjusting the computer so that I could see the current conditions and location of the possible tornado. As soon as I had it centered in my radar software I realized that my mom and sister were just about a half mile to a mile north of the tornadoes track. Of course I am texting my family and telling them to take cover which they verified they were. This tornado, rated at an EF 4 with winds speeds up to 145 mph, hit the downtown area of Hattiesburg causing widespread damage with many injuries but no fatalities. Thankfully this was on a Sunday afternoon; imagine if this would have happened on a week day. Timing, it’s all about timing and being aware.
Anyway back to this week’s weather, looks to be little to no chance of rain the rest of the work week with temperatures ranging from the 60’s during the day and down into the 30’s overnight for most of the week .
The Krewe of Phoenix parade will roll Friday at 5 p.m. under sunny skies and brisk temperatures as the expected low overnight Friday is anticipated to drop down to about 35. Dress warm and enjoy the festivities. “Laissez les bons temps rouler”.
Be safe and aware
