NATCHEZ — Natchez police arrested two individuals Friday night in connection with a long list of recent home burglaries.
Delvin Mason, 19, 3 Beachwood Ave. and Calvin Blake Jr., 22, 6 Oakland Road, were each arrested and charged with one count of residence burglary.
Lt. Craig Godbold of the Natchez Police Department said no bonds have been set because officers are still in the process of placing more charges.
After receiving a report of a home burglary on Somerset Road Friday morning, Godbold said officers began searching for the suspects, who were believed to be driving a green Honda.
“We went back to one of the gas stations leading into that neighborhood in hopes of them having video footage of that car,” Godbold said. “Turns out, not only did they have a video of (the green Honda) going into the neighborhood, but the two suspects also got out of the car and went into the store before they did the burglary.”
By Friday night, Mason and Blake were identified and arrested in connection with the burglary.
Police believe both suspects are linked to 10 other burglaries, all reported in Natchez neighborhoods. Televisions, iPads, cell phones and video game consoles are the main items missing from burglarized homes.
“All these burglaries took place in broad daylight,” Godbold said. “Most of the time in these neighborhoods, most everybody goes to work in the morning and then these guys come in, find an empty house, go around to the back, break a window and take your stuff.”
Kristin Foster, 515 Duncan Ave., is another victim of recent burglaries. After returning home from work at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Foster’s husband noticed several electronics missing from the home.
“They took the TV out of the kitchen, the TV out of the living room, a Samsung Galaxy tablet, Xbox 360 and an Android tablet,” said Foster, adding that intruders broke and came through the back door.
And although the exact time of the burglary is unknown, Foster said she believes it was sometime around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
“My neighbor said her dogs started barking around that time, but she didn’t think anything of it,” Foster said.
Other residential burglaries have been reported on Hampton Court, Pecan Way, John Glenn Avenue, Primrose Lane, Oakwood Lane, St. Charles Avenue and Dana Road.
In an effort to combat this spike in home theft, Godbold said the department has increased their neighborhood patrols and are urging residents to lock their homes and keep valuable possessions out of sight.
“Make sure you have an active neighborhood watch program—and it might not be a bad idea to invest in a home security system,” Godbold said.
