NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Evelyne E. Smith, 97, formerly of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Tall Pines Assisted Living in Livingston, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A memorial service for Mrs. Smith was held at Tall Pines Assisted Living.
Mrs. Smith was born July 7, 1917, in Waxahachie, Texas, the daughter of John David Edmundson Jr. and Olia Belle Newton Edmundson.
Evelyne and her husband, Welcome, were chartered members of the First Presbyterian Church of Vidalia and were active in a number of community organizations in the Vidalia and Natchez area until her move to Livingston in 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Welcome “Shorty” D. Smith; one son, Leonard Wigginton; one sister, Ruth Ramsey; one brother, Richard Edmundson; two sisters, Reba Collins and Elose Bean; and one brother, David Edmundson.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Wilson of Shreveport, La., and Joy Bailey and husband, Ray, of Livingston; two sons, David Wigginton and wife, Sarah, of Glendale, Ariz., and Pete Wigginton of Denham Springs, La.; 13 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her beloved pet, Annie.
Mrs. Smith’s family would like to thank all the people at Tall Pines Assisted Living for making their mother feel so loved with their caring and compassion. She thought of it as her home in the last years of her life.
