MEADVILLE — Services for Walter Glen Whittington, 91, who died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Wallace officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Whittington was born Jan. 9, 1924, the son of Cary Whittington and Winnie Bass Whittington.
He retired from International Paper Company with 33 years of service. He was also a World War II veteran and received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Whittington shared a number of stories about his travels around the globe. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Bilbo Whittington; one sister, Grace Steele; and two brothers, Thomas Whittington and Paul Whittington.
Survivors include four daughters, Ann Dillon and husband, Randy, Margaret Causey and husband, Roger, and Maggie Whittington, all of Meadville, and Lenora Whittington of Hammond, La.; three grandchildren, Amanda Dillon, Stephen Causey and Brandi Causey; one great-grandson, Scott Causey; one brother, Morris Whittington of Decatur, Ala.; and a number of family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Causey, Will Causey, John Dillard, William Clinkscales, Ryan Hall and Lynn Bilbo.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Siloam Baptist Church.
