NATCHEZ — Services for David Samuel “Sambo” Taylor, 69, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Flower Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Strickland officiating.3:13 DavidTaylor obitpic

Burial will be Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

A celebration of life wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Taylor was born April 7, 1945, in Alma Garden, New Mexico, the son of David Taylor and Lillian Givens Carr.

He was a 1963 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and attended Alcorn State University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964. He later attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

He was previously employed by Diamond International, Natchez Water Works and International Paper Company. He was also a member of the Wilderness Baptist Church.

David loved landscaping his yard, listening to blues, fishing, cooking and talking with the elderly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Albert Carr Sr.; his grandparents, John and Evelyn Givens; four brothers, Albert Carr Jr., Larry Carr, Robert Taylor and Johnny Brown; and one sister, Louise Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Sewell Taylor; two sons, David Samuel Taylor Jr. and wife, TaWanda, of Natchez and Sean Patterson and wife, Nicole, of Baltimore; one daughter, Anjurmet “Angel” Taylor and her companion, Stephanie; two brothers, Ray Carr Sr. and Henry Smoot, both of Natchez; four sisters, Betty Joyce Morris and husband, Milton, Lena Butler and husband, Leon, all of Natchez, Anna Gill and husband, Charles, of San Francisco and Lottie Mae Jackson of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, Davion, Davin, Raven and Keseana; and other relatives and friends.
